I just came back from a beautiful trip through Italy with my girlfriend. One of the places we’ve visited was Naples; a city of extremes. On one hand there was utter beauty, perfection in the old buildings, churches and amazing food. On the other hand there was a lot of poverty, pollution and seemingly corruption. I have seen places that were more dirty and poor, but I have never seen a place where the best of human kind, the beauty and grace, blends with the worst of human kind, poverty and pollution. It crossed my mind that all the bad things I saw were a product of ego and all the good things I saw where a product of taming that very ego. Italy is a paradise, overflown with cultural and natural beauty, but it seems to be polluted by corruption and governmental and civilian carelesness. Everywhere I go, I always come to the same conclusion; we have to tame our ego’s, our agression. That is the only way to better this world. The funny things was that on our way in the train from Rome to Pisa, we actually sat across a Tibetan monk who told us the exact same thing, that we have to tame our ego’s if we want to heal this world.
